In 2002, Dana Landry recorded his first CD as a leader and composer. Journey Home, featuring Gary Burton on vibraphone, was nominated for a Grammy in 2005. The CD features two original compositions, “Deerhead Sketches” and “Gatien Dance.” Don Aliquo on sax, Erik Applegate on bass, and Chris Brown and Jim White on drums joined him for his “journey home.”
Landry can be heard with the Dan Gailey Jazz Orchestra’s CD, What Did You Dream? Released in July of 2010, this recording is a project of original compositions by Gailey. In 2009 Landry joined Erik Applegate on a CD entitled Red Skies, a recording of Applegate’s original compositions. Also featured on this CD are Jim White on drums and Steve Kovalcheck on guitar.
In 2008, UNC Lab Band I under the direction of Landry released a CD entitled Here in the Now. This multi-year project involves recordings made between spring of 2005 and fall 2006
Landry traveled to Germany in 2004 to record with bassist Michael Kraft and drummer Daniel Messina. Their collaboration as a trio resulted in a Latin jazz CD entitled Latin Journey. Landry can also be heard on two Don Aliquo CDs, Jazz Folk and Another Reply.
Landry is currently working on a project featuring selections from composers and performers from Memphis, Tennessee.
